After two hours of wiring !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and another hour or so of cleaning up last night, the new fancy head unit has a home.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I still need to take the seat out to get access to the amp and make a few adjustments, as well as pull some carpet to remove the cable and the old disk changer from under the back seat, but I'm done.*
*Also need to figure out a way to get the BT mic up to the ceiling. Looks like I might have to remove some headliner and fish through the a-pillar.
*Also need to get used to the interface so shuffling through the glovebox iPod doesn's seem as awkward, and turn off BT for now - since every time I select it, by phone starts streaming, or ringing.

Looks like a nice and tidy job - I especially like the looks of the head unit. Clean lines, simple display, very "grown up".

It's hard to find something that looks period - or subtle on an older dash. Took me a a little searching find one that didn't look like a Tiburon.

HA! Most aftermarket head units seem over-complicated with their "extreme" look - lots of buttons, sharp angles, and flashy crap.

Just took a look at the Blaupunkt products on their website - nice-looking stuff all-around, very clean.

I was in the market a year or so ago and found the same thing. The predominant use of blue LED backlighting stumped me. Blue is such a hard color to read at night; every single blue button in my current head unit is impossible to read and is hard on my eyes when driving through the country. I like the looks of the unit installed and now I want to start looking for a new head unit.

I love those Blaupunkt head units! I put the "discless" SD card version in my Subaru:
I'm using the built-in amplifier which is good enough for now.

I think this one is 4x50? Too much for the 4" speakers in the doors/AC cover in the rear.
The amp/cabinet (yes, the box is 18 years old, too) does all the work. I have a cutoff switch to kill the amp if I have people sitting in the back.
